Spring 2006 celebrated the tenth anniversary of Raf Simons’s eponymous label. The occasion was marked by a retrospective book, and an unusually decadent runway show held at the Boboli Gardens in Florence. The collection was titled “Icarus Surgit,” after the notorious figure of Greek lore who flew too close to the sun. The idea of flight was evidently on Simons’ mind during the creative process, which resulted in a runway full of lightweight, oversized fabrics of lace and mesh, many which featured cutouts, slashes, and other open details.

This tank top was made with a laser cut technique employed often throughout the season — the same slashes could be seen on hoodies and other tops. The silhouette is long and slim, with plunging arm holes, similar to that of a DIY cut-off tank.
